I guess we have already established that a like a little fear and uncertainty with my enchantment in my previous post about fairy tales.
But I am wondering about kids today, can I write a story with elements of ...not fear exactly, that's a little strong, I think I mean elements of the unknown. Strange territory where something bad could happen (but it doesn't) if we aren't careful.
Can I write a story like that and still hope to find a publisher? Because the true is I have two favorite genres, one is the horror/mystery genre, and I don't refer to goosebumps type books here, I refer to Coraline type books (of-course!), and my other favorite is cosy, like Peter Rabbit, or the Secret Garden.
Can the horror/mystery genre work for the 4-8 year old crowd? And I use the phrasing horror/mystery, in its nicest, most engaging tone!
I think I have circled back to my previous post, I need a critique group. And I know there are on-line ones out there cause Nancy Sanders was kind enough to show/tell me about hers. Thanks for that! I am discovering that the online writers are a very generous and friendly bunch, i love that!
How scary is tooo scary?
